Matchday 22 of the Premier League didn't go well for Arsenal. After taking a 2-0 lead at the Emirates Stadium, the Gunners were held to a draw by Aston Villa, a result that left them six points behind Liverpool, who beat Brentford with two decisive goals from Darwin Núñez in the final minutes.

The fans were annoyed by Mikel Arteta's team's performance and booed the team immediately after the equalizer. In the final minutes, Arsenal tried to attack in a disorganized manner and wasted two incredible chances to score a third goal. Mikel Merino had a goal cancelled out by the VAR after the ball bounced off Kai Havertz, who hit the post with a firm shot in stoppage time.

Gabriel Martinelli is settled at Arsenal

Despite all the negativity, the weekend was very positive in terms of consolidating Gabriel Martinelli's great season. The Brazilian once again showed his finishing ability when he capitalized on Trossard's cross to score Arsenal's first goal in the 35th minute.

Martinelli has now scored 6 goals in the current Premier League season. In other words, the Brazilian needed 15 fewer games to equal his tally from the whole of last season, demonstrating that he can be much more decisive by the end of the 2024/25 season.

Arsenal's next Premier League fixtures

Everything suggests that the next three games will be crucial for Arsenal to define their main objectives until the end of the current Premier League season. On Saturday (25 January), they face Wolverhampton away from home. On 2 February, the Gunners face Manchester City in a clash that promises to be very difficult due to the recovery of Pep Guardiola's side.
