Wolves are unbeaten in six meetings with Everton, winning five of them, their longest undefeated streak in this fixture since 1973, with the Wanderers aiming to win a fourth successive visit to Goodison.

Everton vs Wolverhampton Wanderers Preview

Just two points seperate these two Premier League strugglers, meaning victory for either could prove invaluable. Of the pair, Everton are three places and two points better off, but the current zeitgeist on the blue half of Merseyside is one of fear. On Sunday, the Toffees were smashed 4-0 by Manchester United at Old Trafford, cue an extremely early mass exodus from the traveling Evertonians, as their team produced a catalogue of calamitous defensive errors.

Sean Dyche's side are now without a win in five and, with the Friedkin Group's proposed takeover imminent, Dyche is certainly a man under massive pressure. Failure to win this mid-week clash could prove catastrophic given that, between now and Boxing Day, the Blues' subsequent fixtures are against fierce rivals Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea and then Manchester City; merry Christmas! Thus, Dyche's team desperately require a victory here.

Wolverhampton Wanderers though will fancy their chances of collecting three points that would propel them out of the relegation zone for the first time all season. On Saturday, Wolves' four-match unbeaten streak came to an end, defeated 4-2 by Bournemouth at Molineux, with three of the Cherries' goals coming from the penalty spot, having been presented to them on a silver platter. Prior to this, Gary O'Neil's team had enjoyed back-to-back wins, but the Old Gold remain in the bottom three, but this commences a crucial period, with games against fellow-strugglers West Ham, Ipswich and Leicester all on the agenda before Christmas. As alluded to earlier, Wolves have won each of their last three outings at Goodison Park, as many victories as they'd enjoyed there across the previous 19 visits, dating back over half a century, so will those bedecked in Old Gold be celebrating in the Bullens Road stand again?

Everton Team News

Dominic Calvert-Lewin is likely to return up front, after Beto was given a surprise start at Old Trafford. Right-back Nathan Patterson came off the bench during the second half on Sunday, his first appearance since 15 April following a long-term thigh issue, but either Ashley Young or fit-again captain Séamus Coleman will be in that position from the start. Tim Iroegbunam, James Garner Armando Broja and Youssef Chermiti remain sidelined, while Jesper Lindstrøm could keep his place out-wide, chosen over Jack Harrison.

Everton predicted lineup vs Wolverhampton Wanderers: (4-2-3-1): Pickford; Young, Tarkowski, Branthwaite, Mykolenko; Gana Gueye, Doucouré, Lindstrøm, McNeil, Ndiaye; Calvert-Lewin.

Everton Player to Watch vs Wolverhampton Wanderers

Dwight McNeil is Everton's top-scorer this season with four in all competitions, albeit the most-recent of those came in September, so can he end that barren streak by netting against Wolves for the first time since 2019?

Wolverhampton Wanderers Team News

Gary O'Neil is still short of defensive options, considering Yerson Mosquera and Bastien Meupiyou are injured. To compound this issue, Nélson Semedo is suspended, having been shown his fifth caution of the campaign against Bournemouth. Craig Dawson did return to the team at half time on Saturday, while fit-again Santiago Bueno and Matt Doherty, the latter deputising for Semedo, could also come into the back-line. This would allow Mario Lemina to return to midfield while, irrespective of formation, Jørgen Strand Larsen and Matheus Cunha will spearhead the attack. Boubacar Traoré, Enso González and Saša Kalajdžić are all out long-term, but Hwang Hee-chan is an option again, having come off the bench during the last two matches. Rayan Aït-Nouri, Toti and João Gomes would all sit out Monday's visit to the London Stadium if booked.

Wolverhampton Wanderers predicted lineup vs Everton: (4-3-3): José Sá; Doherty, Dawson, Toti Aït-Nouri; André, João Gomes, Lemina; Bellegarde, Strand Larsen, Cunha.

Wolverhampton Wanderers Players to Watch vs Everton

Jørgen Strand Larsen's brace at the weekend took his tally to six goals in the Premier League this season, not a bad return at all, so can then Norwegian add to his tally?

Everton vs Wolverhampton Wanderers Prediction

We're backing Wolves to claim a narrow victory at Goodison. The visitors certainly have more about them going forward, so we can see their extra quality snatching a crucial win. Should this be the case, the full time boos will be off the scale and audible from hundreds of miles away: Everton 0-1 Wolverhampton Wanderers.
