These two clubs have only ever met once before, Tim Cahill bagging a late winner in a League Cup tie at London Road 19 years ago, but will Goodison witness an FA Cup upset?
Everton vs Peterborough United Preview
Given Everton's recent miserable form in the Premier League, they'll be hoping an FA Cup run can spark their season into life. On Saturday, Sean Dyche's team were beaten once again, this time defeated by Bournemouth, the only goal of the afternoon by the South Coast coming 13 minutes from time. So, amazingly, the Toffees have failed to score in eight of their last ten league fixtures, winning only one of them, hence why they're 16th, just two points clear of the bottom three. For one week at least, the Blues don't have to worry about Premier League survival, simply hoping this'll be the start of a memorable cup run. Everton have only exited in the third round on four occasions since 2008, although they haven't been dumped out by lower-league opposition at this stage since being beaten by Oldham 17 years ago; under-pressure Dyche can ill-afford an ignominious exit here.
Peterborough United meantime finished fourth in EFL League One last season, ousted in the play-offs by Oxford, but this season isn't going nearly as well, with Darren Ferguson's side currently 19th, yielding a miserly four points from their last nine outings, most-recently beaten 1-0 by Wrexham at the Racecourse Ground on Saturday. In the FA Cup though, Posh have come through two thrillers to get this far, ousting Newport County 4-2 and then Notts County 4-3, thereby aiming to reach the fourth round for only the seventh time in 28 years, most-recently dumped out by in round five Man City three seasons ago. This will be the 29th time Peterborough have faced top-flight opposition in a cup tie, their sole victory coming over Arsenal 60 years ago, so will the Posh faithful venturing to Merseyside on a Thursday night have a famous victory to celebrate?

Everton Team News
With Everton not in action again for six days after this one, Sean Dyche can surely pick a strong side, albeit some rotation is anticipated. João Virgínia is expected to be in goal, having started the EFL Cup defeat to Southampton in October, while Jake O'Brien, Michael Kaene and Nathan Patterson could be handed rare starts in defence, the latter hoping to be included in a lineup for the first time for almost exactly a year due to a thigh injury. In attack, Armando Broja has started the last two matches, chosen over struggling Dominic Calvert-Lewin, so it'll be interesting to see who gets the nod this time. Tim Iroegbunam, James Garner and Dwight McNeil remain sidelined.
Everton predicted lineup vs Peterborough United: (4-5-1): Virgínia; Patterson, O'Brien, Keane, Mykolenko; Gana Gueye, Mangala, Doucouré, Harrison, Ndiaye; Calvert-Lewin.
Everton Player to Watch vs Peterborough United
Iliman Ndiaye is Everton's joint-top scorer this season with four, so the Senegalese international is certainly their main goal-threat here.
Everton vs Peterborough United Prediction
Don't tune into this one expecting a goal-fest, but we are forecasting that Everton will do enough to battle through to round four: Everton 2-0 Peterborough United.
