Southampton are seeking back-to-back victories at Stamford Bridge, something they most-recently achieved 33 years ago, thanks to a 3-1 win in the Zenith Data Systems Cup.

Chelsea vs Southampton Preview

Can Chelsea address their alarming recent form? On Saturday evening, despite taking a very early lead through Enzo Fernández, the Blues were beaten 2-1 at Villa Park; Filip Jörgensen letting a rather tame stoppage time shot slip through his fingers.

So, this is a third successive away league defeat for Enzo Maresca's team, who've won only two of their last ten Premier League fixtures, beating both Wolves and West Ham in home Monday night clashes. They haven't won a league game on any other day apart from Monday since 15 December! This has seen Chelsea slide down from third to sixth, thereby currently outside the Champions League positions, but surely the Blues will get back to winning ways here.

As for Southampton, they remain rock-bottom, now 13 points from safety, having been hammered 4-0 by South Coast rivals Brighton at St Mary's on Saturday. Since taking over in early-December, Ivan Jurić has lost eight of his last nine Premier League match in charge, with the Saints shipping 22 goals across their seven outings since New Year's Day.

Well, with trips to Stamford Bridge and then Anfield up next for Southampton, chances are they'll still be rooted on just nine points for a little while longer.

Chelsea vs Southampton Head-to-Head Record

Chelsea Team News

Chelsea are without Wesley Fofana, Benoît Badiashile, Roméo Lavia, Noni Madueke, Marc Guiu and Nicolas Jackson, while Trevoh Chalobah is now also a doubt, having hobbled off just eight minutes into Saturday's defeat.

So, Tosin Adarabioyo will come into defence, while Enzo Maresca deployed captain Reece James at the base of midfield at Villa Park, an experiment that produced mixed results, but surely the more attacking Jadon Sancho will return to the lineup this time.

Lastly, in goal, Robert Sánchez had been dropped, following a string of errors, but Filip Jörgensen was far from convincing at the weekend either, so who knows who will be donning the gloves?

Chelsea predicted lineup vs Southampton: (4-2-3-1): Jörgensen; James, Adarabioyo, Colwill, Cucurella; Fernández, Caicedo, Sancho, Palmer, Neto; Nkunku.

Chelsea Players to Watch vs Southampton

Cole Palmer has 14 goals to his name this season, one of which came at St Mary's in December, but he's without a goal in five, so can he end this barren run on Tuesday?

Southampton Team News

Taylor Harwood-Bellis, Adam Lallana, Ryan Fraser and Ross Stewart remain sidelined for the Saints, while Jan Bednarek picked up an injury against Brighton, so could Armel Bella-Kotchap, who came off the bench at the weekend, start a Premier League match for the first time since April 2023?

Elsewhere, Ivan Jurić went rather attacking on Saturday, that strategy certainly did not pay off, deploying both Tyler Dibling and Kamaldeen Sulemana in-behind striker Cameron Archer. Here, midfielder Lesley Ugochukwu is ineligible to face his partner club, while fit-again Flynn Downes is one yellow card away from a two-match ban.

Southampton predicted lineup vs Chelsea: (5-2-2-1): Ramsdale; Walker-Peters, Bree, Bella-Kotchap, Stephens, Welington; Fernandes, Aribo; Dibling, Sulemana, Onuachu.

Southampton Player to Watch vs Chelsea

Aaron Ramsdale has made 80 saves in 18 Premier League appearances this season, an average of 4.4 per game, a ratio that's likely to increase at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea vs Southampton Prediction

Despite their recent poor form, we cannot see any other outcome then a resounding Chelsea victory, largely due to the fact Southampton get hammered every week: Chelsea 4-0 Southampton.
