Brighton & Hove Albion vs Wolverhampton Wanderers - Premier League: TV channel, prediction, team news and lineups
By Ben Gray
Brighton have won four of their last eight meetings with Wolves, losing only one, including a 3-2 Carabao Cup victory when the pair met at the Amex just 38 days ago, so will this one produce a home win too?
Brighton & Hove Albion vs Wolverhampton Wanderers Preview
Will Brighton & Hove Albion continue their excellent start to the season? Last weekend, Danny Welbeck's goal, coming very much against the run of play, was enough to see the Seagulls beat Newcastle 1-0 at St James' Park. That made it back-to-back victories for Fabian Hürzeler's team, who've still only lost once, meaning Brighton start the weekend fifth, dreaming of a swift return to European competition. So now, can the South Coast side secure a third successive Premier League win, something they most-recently achieved 13 months ago?
In contrast, any win will lift the Wolverhampton Wanderers mood. Last weekend, after taking a very early lead through Jørgen Strand Larsen, Wolves were heartbreakingly beaten 2-1 by Manchester City at Molineux, conceding a very controversial goal in the 95th minute, snatching away the point they'd fought so valiantly for. This though was a fifth successive defeat for Gary O'Neil's team, who still only have a solitary point on the board, making this Wolves' worst start to any season since 1926. So, can the basement boys leap out of the bottom three by claiming a shock win in Sussex?

Brighton & Hove Albion Team News
After scoring the winner on Tyneside, Danny Welbeck was stretchered off, requiring an oxygen mask, last weekend, meaning he's extremely unlikely to feature here. Elsewhere, Pervis Estupiñán, Julio Enciso and Kaoru Mitoma were all on the bench against Newcastle, having returned late following international duty, so it'll be interesting to see if any of this trio start this time. Jan Paul van Hecke came on towards the end of that game, back after a groin issue, which is a major boost. Yankuba Minteh, who missed out on a meeting with his former side a week ago due to injury, is likely to be available this weekend.
Brighton & Hove Albion predicted lineup vs Wolverhampton Wanderers: (4-1-4-1): Verbruggen; Veltman, Dunk, van Hecke, Estupiñán; Hinshelwood, Baleba, Rutter, Ayari, Mitoma; Ferguson.
Brighton & Hove Albion Player to Watch vs Wolverhampton Wanderers
Evan Ferguson, on the occasion of his 20th birthday, started a Premier League match for the first time since 10 March at St James' Park. Likely to lead the line alone in Welbeck's absence, can the young Irishman score for club or country for the first time since 25 November last year?
Wolverhampton Wanderers Team News
Gary O'Neil switched to a back five last weekend, something he's avidly been attempting to move away from this season, which was certainly sensible against Man City, but it'll be interesting to see what he goes with here. Santiago Bueno came into defence, alongside Toti and Craig Dawson, given that they're the only available centre-backs at the club.
Elsewhere, with summer signing Sam Johnstone injured, José Sá returned in goal last Sunday, but did he do enough to keep his place, if the former is fit again? Hwang Hee-chan picked up an ankle injury on international duty so he, as well as Yerson Mosquera, Boubacar Traoré and Saša Kalajdžić, are all sidelined. Nélson Semedo and João Gomes would sit out next Saturday's crucial clash with Crystal Palace suspended if booked here.
Wolverhampton Wanderers predicted lineup vs Brighton & Hove Albion: (4-4-2): José Sá; Semedo, Toti, Dawson, Aït-Nouri; André, João Gomes, Lemina, Forbs; Strand Larsen; Cunha.
Wolverhampton Wanderers Player to Watch vs Brighton & Hove Albion
Matheus Cunha has scored three goals so far this season, on target in their last two away games at Villa and Brentford, so can he and strike partner Jørgen Strand Larsen pose Brighton problems?
Brighton & Hove Albion vs Wolverhampton Wanderers Prediction
Back in April 2023, Brighton smashed Wolves 6-0 at the Amex, with the last six encounters between these two have producing a whopping 22 goals overall. While we're not expecting quite as emphatic a margin of victory, we cannot see anything other than a home win, based on what both have produced to date: Brighton & Hove Albion 3-1 Wolverhampton Wanderers.
