Since gaining promotion to the Premier League in 2017, Brighton have won only one of 15 encounters with Man City, losing 13, but could this be the perfect time to face the wounded champions?

Brighton & Hove Albion vs Manchester City Preview

Are Manchester City on the cusp of a crisis? On Tuesday night, despite taking an early lead in Lisbon through Phil Foden, the Citizens were ultimately smashed 4-1 by Sporting CP in the Champions League, with Erling Braut Håland's spot-kick, that thwacked the crossbar, epitomising a miserable night at Estádio José Alvalade.

This though was not a one off. Pep Guardiola's team will travel to the South Coast following three successive defeats, also dumped out of the EFL Cup by Tottenham, before last weekend's 2-1 loss at Bournemouth, ending their 32-match Premier League unbeaten streak. This is the first time since April 2018 they've lost three successive matches, most-recently enduing four defeats on the spin in April 2006 under Stuart Pearce. Having spread these three results across three different competitions, it would be a stretch to say the Sky Blues are in crisis but, given that their next two league games are against Spurs and then Liverpool, another defeat here could leave them trailing behind in the title race.

So, can Brighton add to Man City's recent-misery? Fabian Hürzeler's team themselves are seeking to avoid a third successive defeat, beaten twice by Liverpool last week, edged out 3-2 in the EFL Cup at home, before a 2-1 league reverse at Anfield, despite leading courtesy of Ferdi Kadıoğlu's screamer in front of the Kop. Back in the league, the Seagulls are enjoying a generally impressive campaign, albeit they've won only two of their last eight, throwing away a two-goal lead at home to Wolves a fortnight ago, conceding twice in the final two minutes. Nevertheless, by beating Man United, Tottenham and Newcastle already, Brighton have proved themselves capable of an upset, so can they claim a famous victory when the champions visit Sussex on Saturday evening?

Brighton & Hove Albion Team News

Fabian Hürzeler confirmed in his pre-match press conference that Solly March and James Milner are still out, but there is a chance that Lewis Dunk, Yasin Ayari and Yankuba Minteh could be involved. In further good news, João Pedro and Matt O'Riley are both available, having not featured since September and August respectively, the latter suffering an ankle injury just nine minutes into his debut against Crawley. Carlos Baleba missed last weekend's visit to Merseyside, but should be fit enough to return.

Brighton & Hove Albion predicted lineup vs Manchester City: (4-4-1-1): Verbruggen; Veltman, Igor, van Hecke, Estupiñán; Kadıoğlu, Hinshelwood, Baleba, Mitoma, Rutter; Welbeck.

Brighton & Hove Albion Player to Watch vs Manchester City

Danny Welbeck could not score in a fourth successive Premier League for the very first time last weekend, but is still in fantastic form. Now, he is looking to add to his solitary career goal against Man City, having made 23 previous appearances against them, this scored for Man United in an FA Cup tie all the way back in January 2012.

Manchester City Team News

Pep Guardiola did rotate his team for the mid-week mauling in Lisbon, most-notably handing a full-debut to defender Jahmai Simpson-Pusey, while Kyle Walker and Nathan Aké spent the evening on the substitutes' bench. Guardiola is short of options right now with Rodri, Oscar Bobb, Rúben Dias, John Stones and Jack Grealish sidelined, but Kevin De Bruyne did come on for a brief cameo on Tuesday, his first minutes since 18 September.

Manchester City predicted lineup vs Brighton & Hove Albion: (4-3-3): Ederson; Lewis, Akanji, Aké, Gvardiol; Kovačić, Nunes, Doku, Silva, Foden; Håland.

Manchester City Player to Watch vs Brighton & Hove Albion

Erling Braut Håland has scored just one goal in his last five Premier League appearances and has never found the net at the Amex, hoping to change that fact here.

Brighton & Hove Albion vs Manchester City Prediction

We are backing Man City for victory in this one. Frankly, we just cannot see the Sky Blues losing again, even if Brighton are more than capable, so it might simply be a case of pure-muscle memory, but we are forecasting an away win, even if a tad less confidently than anticipated: Brighton & Hove Albion 1-2 Manchester City.
