Brentford vs Sheffield Wednesday - Carabao Cup: TV channel, prediction, team news and lineups
By Ben Gray
Can Brentford reach the League Cup quarter-finals for the third time in five seasons by overcoming 1991 winners Sheffield Wednesday?
Brentford vs Sheffield Wednesday Preview
Can Brentford continue their excellent start to this season? On Saturday, the Bees prevailed in a seven-goal thriller against Ipswich, first fighting back from 2-0 down by scoring twice in two minutes right on the cusp of half time. Then, after Bryan Mbeumo had fired his team in front from the penalty spot, despite being up against ten-men at this point, Thomas Frank's side conceded an equaliser four minutes from the end, only for Mbeumo's cross to evade everybody and snatch a 4-3 victory at the last.
This win lifted Brentford into the top half of the Premier League table, having yielded 13 points from their five home matches so far, despite losing all four away. In this competition meantime, Brentford have so far overcome Colchester and Leyton Orient, with Fábio Carvalho, Mikkel Damsgaard and Christian Nørgaard on target in the latter. Before this season, Frank's side had won only three of their last ten FA or League Cup matches, but could now reach the last eight of this tournament for the third time in five seasons, firm favourites to achieve this.
Sheffield Wednesday meanwhile have already won three away ties just to get this far, leaving Hull, Grimsby and Blackpool victorious. Despite this, Danny Röhl's side have won only four of 12 EFL Championship games so far, one of which did come on Friday night, fighting back from a goal down to beat Portsmouth 2-1, with Josh Windass and then Michael Smith the scorers at Fratton Park. This lifted them up to 15th, yet to claim back-to-back victories, something they'll be seeking to change when Watford visit Hillsborough on Saturday. Before then, can the Owls upset the odds and reach the quarter-finals of the League Cup for the first time in nine seasons?

Brentford Team News
Given that Thomas Frank's team aren't in action for six days after this, traveling to Craven Cottage on Monday night, there's little need for him to rotate excessively. Hákon Valdimarsson is still yet to make his Premier League debut, but has played in both EFL Cup ties so far, set to be in goal again. Similarly, Ben Mee has played just a solitary minute in the league, but has stared both League Cup matches, likely to come in defence, as is teenager Jayden Meghoma. Mathias Jensen came off the bench on Saturday, his first minutes since 31 August due to a calf injury, so could start this time as he builds up his fitness. Having scored a spectacular overhead kick in the previous round, Fábio Carvalho will get the nod in attack.
Brentford predicted lineup vs Sheffield Wednesday: (4-3-3): Valdimarsson; Roerslev, van den Berg, Mee, Roerslev; Yarmolyuk, Jensen, Damsgaard; Mbuemo, Schade, Fábio Carvalho.
Brentford Player to Watch vs Sheffield Wednesday
Bryan Mbeumo's brace at the weekend took his tally to eight for the season already, seven of which have been scored in home games, seeking to add to his three career goals against Sheffield Wednesday.
Sheffield Wednesday Team News
Danny Röhl has made wholesale changes for the previous trio of Carabao Cup ties; up against Premier League opposition for the first time, will this trend continue? Pierce Charles, who made his senior Northern Ireland debut earlier this month, will be given a chance in goal, with regular number one James Beadle rotated out. His older brother Shea Charles has started every league game since arriving, but hasn't featured in the EFL Cup, with Svante Ingelsson and Sean Fusire amongst those hoping to see some minutes in midfield. At the back, Akin Famewo was taken off injured on Friday night, with Dominic Iorfa likely to deputise.
Sheffield Wednesday predicted lineup vs Brentford: (3-4-2-1): Charles; Palmer, Bernard, Iorfa; Valery, Ingelsson, Ingelsson, Lowe; Musaba, Windass, Lowe.
Sheffield Wednesday Players to Watch vs Brentford
Josh Windass is the Owls' top-scorer this season, bagging his third of the campaign against Portsmouth last time out, so can he score against Brentford for the very first time, with this set to be his fifth attempt?
Brentford vs Sheffield Wednesday Prediction
We're backing the Bees to be to strong for Sheffield Wednesday, even if Thomas Frank does make changes to his team, with a high-scoring tie also likely in West London: Brentford 3-1 Sheffield Wednesday.
