Manchester City had won 15 successive meetings with Bournemouth, prior to the Cherries' first-ever victory over the Citizens which came when the duo most-recently met in November.

Bournemouth vs Manchester City Preview

Manchester City will not be retaining a fifth successive Premier League title, we can say that for certain, but can they continue their imperious FA Cup record? The Sky Blues have reached, at least, the semi-finals of this competition in each of the last six seasons, no club has ever achieved that before, hoisting the trophy aloft in both 2019 and two campaigns ago, beaten in last year's final by Manchester United.

So far this season, Pep Guardiola's side have hammered Salford 8-0, before battling back from behind to beat both Leyton Orient and then Plymouth, with Nico O'Reilly bagging a brace in the latter. This is the Citizens' last hope of capturing silverware, facing a real fight to get back into the Champions League.

A fortnight ago, Man City were held to a 2-2 draw by Brighton at the Etihad, despite leading twice through Erling Braut Håland and then Omar Marmoush. Guardiola's side have therefore collected just seven points from their last six league fixtures, which leaves the Sky Blues fifth, thereby occupying the final Champions League spot, but their form will have to improve if they're to stay there.

Thus, Bournemouth will very much fancy their chances of victory, having beaten Man City for the very first time, at the 22nd attempt, back in early-November. The Cherries are seeking to reach a first-ever major semi-final, their sole appearance in the last eight of this competition coming four seasons ago, ousted by Southampton behind-closed-doors.

To get this far this time, Andoni Iraola's side have hammered West Brom and then ousted Everton at Goodison, before requiring a penalty shootout to overcome Wolves in round five; Luis Sinisterra converting the decisive spot-kick. Meantime, Bournemouth are seeking to qualify for Europe for the first time in their entire history, albeit their hopes of achieving that have suffered some setbacks in recent weeks. Their last four Premier League outings have yielded just a solitary point, most-recently beaten 2-1 by Brentford, suffering three defeats in four, having only lost one of the previous 13. Thus, Man City are certainly the favourites at Dean Court, but write off Bournemouth at your peril.

Bournemouth Team News

Marcos Senesi, Julián Araujo, Adam Smith, Luis Sinisterra and Enes Ünal remain sidelined, but that is certainly a significantly shorter list of absentees than Andoni Iraola was dealing with not too long ago.

Lewis Cook will continue to fill-in at right-back, allowing Tyler Adams to partner Ryan Christie at the base of midfield, while defender Dean Huijsen will be full of confidence, having made his international debut for Spain during their Nations League ties against Netherlands last week.

Lastly, in attack, Iraola does have some decisions to make, considering Dango Ouattara has been on the bench for the last three games, with Marcus Tavernier getting the nod.

Bournemouth predicted lineup vs Manchester City: (4-2-3-1): Arrizabalaga; Cook, Zabarnyi, Huijsen, Kerkez; Adams, Christie, Tavernier, Kluivert, Semenyo; Evanilson.

Bournemouth Players to Watch vs Manchester City

Miloš Kerkez set-up both goals when Bournemouth beat Man City in November, earning wide-spread praise, so will the Hungarian full-back be key again?

Manchester City Team News

Pep Guardiola is without John Stones, Manuel Akanji, Nathan Aké, Rodri and Oscar Bobb, while Ederson is a doubt due to an abdominal injury, so Stefan Ortega is set to be donning the gloves again.

Few changes are forecast compared to the team that drew with Brighton, but the biggest decision Pep Guardiola will have to make pertains to his wingers. Savinho and Jérémy Doku have been getting the nod out-wide of late, so will that continue to be the case, or will any of Kevin De Bruyne, Phil Foden, Jack Grealish or Bernardo Silva return to the lineup?

Manchester City predicted lineup vs Bournemouth: (4-3-3): Ortega; Lewis, Khusanov, Rúben Dias, Gvardiol; Nico, Gündoğan, Savinho, Marmoush, Doku; Håland.

Manchester City Player to Watch vs Bournemouth

Erling Braut Håland took his tally to 29 goals for the season a fortnight ago, also on target against both Moldova and Israel during the international break, although he's only ever scored once in five meetings with Bournemouth, seeking to improve that ratio in Dorset.

Bournemouth vs Manchester City Prediction

We are backing Manchester City to get through this tie and reach Wembley; it won't be easy, but the Sky Blues should simply have too much quality at Dean Court: Bournemouth 1-2 Manchester City.
