Aston Villa vs Crystal Palace - Premier League: TV channel, prediction, team news and lineups
By Ben Gray
Crystal Palace are aiming to claim three successive victories over Aston Villa for the very first time, having smashed them 5-0 on the final day of last season, before a 2-1 Carabao Cup victory a mere 24 days ago.
Aston Villa vs Crystal Palace Preview
Can Aston Villa address their slide down the table? The Claret and Blue Army come into this clash having suffered back-to-back Premier League defeats for the first time since May 2023. First, despite leading at the break thanks to Morgan Rogers, Unai Emery's team were ultimately smashed 4-1 at Tottenham before, last time out, being caught on the counter-attack twice at Anfield during a 2-0 defeat to Liverpool.
In-between, Villa's perfect record in the Champions League was also shattered by Club Brugge, beaten 1-0 at Jan Breydelstadion, while they've now won just one of their last six in the league, thereby sliding from third down to ninth. This is the start of another key week for the Villans, given that they'll welcome Juventus to Birmingham on Wednesday, before facing Chelsea at Stamford Bridge next Sunday. Thus, with two huge clashes to come, Villa supporters will be desperate to witness a morale-boosting victory here.
Meantime, every point is precious for Crystal Palace, considering they kick off in the relegation zone. Two weeks ago, the Eagles were beaten 2-0 by Fulham at Selhurst Park, a scoreline that flattered the hosts, with Daichi Kamada's red card compounding a miserable afternoon in South London. Before this, Oliver Glasner's side had shown signs of life, beating Tottenham 1-0 at home, thereby claiming their first victory of the campaign, before an entertaining 2-2 draw with Wolves, unlucky not to leave Molineux with more.
The Eagles did depart Villa Park victorious little over three weeks ago, prevailing 2-1 in a League Cup tie, claiming only their fourth victory at the venue in 29 attempts, previously prevailing on Trinity Road in '67, '91 and 2013. That though was against a much-changed Villa side, with a home win, by far, the more likely outcome this time.

Aston Villa Team News
Matty Cash is sidelined due to a calf injury suffered at Tottenham, meaning Ezri Konsa is likely to continue at right-back, with Diego Carlos in the middle. Alongside, Pau Torres is expected to be fit, despite withdrawing from the Spain squad during the international break. John McGinn was on target during both of Scotland's wins last week, netting against Croatia and most-recently Poland, so is likely to return to the Villa side here, with Jacob Ramsey, who went off at Anfield, likely to miss out.
Aston Villa predicted lineup vs Crystal Palace: (4-3-3): Martínez; Konsa, Diego Carlos, Torres, Digne; Onana, Tielemans, McGinn, Bailey; Rogers, Watkins.
Aston Villa Player to Watch vs Crystal Palace
Ollie Watkins has struggled for consistency this season, scoring in only one of his last eight club appearances, but was on target for England in Athens last Thursday, so can he carry that confidence into this clash?
Crystal Palace Team News
Will Hughes can return following a one-match suspension, which is a major boost considering Oliver Glasner is very short of midfield options right now. Jefferson Lerma and Adam Wharton both missed the defeat to Fulham, with Cheick Doucouré only fit enough for the bench, hence why defender Marc Guéhi and Justin Devenny, thrown in for his senior debut, were the midfield duo a fortnight ago. Wharton, as well as star attacker Eberechi Eze, are still sidelined, following injuries sustained at Villa Park, but there is optimism that Jefferson Lerma could return. Further forward, Daichi Kamada is suspended, but Eddie Nketiah is expected to lead the line, alongside Jean-Philippe Mateta, following a knock. Daniel Muñoz would miss next weekend's clash with Newcastle if cautioned.
Crystal Palace predicted lineup vs Aston Villa: (3-4-3): Henderson; Chalobah, Guéhi, Lacroix; Muñoz, Hughes, Lerma, Mitchell; Sarr, Nketiah, Mateta.
Crystal Palace Player to Watch vs Aston Villa
Jean-Philippe Mateta concluded last season by scoring nine goals in six appearances, including a hat-trick against Aston Villa, although the Frenchman has bagged only three in the Premier League so far this campaign, so now would be a good time for him to rediscover his midas touch.
Aston Villa vs Crystal Palace Prediction
Despite their own underwhelming form, we're fully expecting Aston Villa to win this one. Palace venture to the Midlands depleted, so we simply cannot see the Eagles containing a Villa team still performing well in general, despite a downturn in results: Aston Villa 3-1 Crystal Palace.
