Arsenal have won 26 of their last 36 meetings with West Ham, while the Hammers target back-to-back away victories over the Gunners for the first time since 2007.

Arsenal vs West Ham United Preview

Last weekend, seemingly set to be held to a frustrating goalless draw by struggling Leicester, Gunners worldwide needed a hero, and one arrived in the shape of Mikel Merino, scoring twice late on to snatch victory. This extended the Gunners' unbeaten streak in the Premier League to 14 matches, the club's longest sequence since April 2011.

Having won three league games on the spin, Mikel Arteta's team, just about, remain interested in the title race. With games against Nottingham Forest, Man United and Chelsea coming up next, they simply cannot drop points in this London derby on Saturday.

Well, West Ham United supporters will make the short five-mile journey west in bad spirits after their team were beaten again a week ago. The Hammers' latest defeat came at the hands of Brentford, with the 1-0 scoreline not doing the Bees' dominance at the London Stadium justice.

The Irons have yielded just a solitary point from their last four, with Graham Potter claiming just one win from six matches in charge. So, out of both cups and languishing down in 16th, almost certainly not going to go down, but with little hope of getting into Europe, what do West Ham have to play for?

Well, their supporters certainly enjoy beating Arsenal, something they achieved when they most recently visited the Emirates, so can the Hammers all but end the Gunners' fledgling title dreams?

Arsenal vs West Ham United Head-to-Head Record

  • Matches Played: 152.
  • Arsenal Wins: 74. Draws: 41. West Ham United Wins: 37.

Arsenal Team News

Mikel Arteta still has very limited attacking options, given that Kai Havertz and Gabriel Jesus are out for the rest of the season, while Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli are still more than a month away from returning.

Despite the fact there are only three forwards available, Raheem Sterling's performance at Leicester was so lifeless he's almost certainly played himself out of the lineup, so we're likely to Mikel Merino leading the line from the start.

That aside, an unchanged lineup is expected, with Myles Lewis-Skelly once again chosen over Riccardo Calafiori at left-back. Takehiro Tomiyasu remains injured but, having been an unused substitute at the King Power, Benjamin White will be hoping to feature for the first time since 10 November following knee surgery.

Arsenal predicted lineup vs West Ham United: (4-2-3-1): Raya; Timber, Saliba, Gabriel, Lewis-Skelly; Rice, Partey, Ødegaard; Nwaneri, Trossard, Merino.

Arsenal Player to Watch vs West Ham United

Ethan Nwaneri was man of the match against Leicester and, still four weeks away from his 18th birthday, he'll continue to be Arsenal's most-creative attacking spark.

West Ham United Team News

The Hammers are without Vladimír Coufal, Crysencio Summerville, Niclas Füllkrug and Michail Antonio. Lucas Paquetá is also now set for a month on the sidelines. So James Ward-Prowse, who came off the bench at half time against Brentford, having been recalled following an unspectacular loan spell at Nottingham Forest, could come into midfield.

Evan Ferguson was also introduced for his Hammers debut so, with no other recognised centre-forward available, will the Irishman start this time?

Graham Potter had been deploying a back five, before switching to a four a week ago but, given how dismal the Hammers' performance was, it's tough to predict what he'll opt for this time.

Konstantinos Mavropanos scored during the win over his former side Arsenal last season, so will he make a telling contribution again? Another former Gunner Łukasz Fabiański will be left on the bench, having been usurped by Alphonse Areola in the goalkeeping pecking order.

West Ham United predicted lineup vs Arsenal: (5-2-2-1): Areola; Wan-Bissaka, Todibo, Kilman, Mavropanos, Emerson; Álvarez, Souček, Kudus, Bowen; Ferguson.

West Ham United Player to Watch vs Arsenal

Mohammed Kudus has just three goals to his name this season, but did score against Arsenal in the EFL Cup last season, so could he be the Hammers' match-winner in North London?

Arsenal vs West Ham United Prediction

As was the case last week, if Arsenal are going to prevail, it's likely to be low-scoring. Given West Ham's miserable form, we are backing the Gunners to just about prevail: Arsenal 2-0 West Ham United.
