3. Copenhagen fans outsang the home crowd, but change is coming
The issues surrounding home support at Chelsea are well documented. Even Enzo Maresca had to ask for more fan support ahead of last week’s match against Leicester City. The doubts regarding the club’s direction in the minds of some fans and the playing style under Maresca have contributed to the subdued atmosphere at Stamford Bridge.
On Thursday, as has been the case in many home fixtures, the away end was the loudest. Copenhagen fans consistently cheered their team, making it feel like an away game at times. There were even boos when Chelsea players approached Copenhagen’s box and cheers when the away side had their way.
However, there were positive signs from the home crowd. A small singing section of 120 fans in The Shed Upper Block made their presence felt, especially in the second half. It was something Chelsea fans were planning to introduce for a while. Increasing their numbers and maintaining such efforts will go a long way in improving the atmosphere at Stamford Bridge.
