Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta will hope to be a busy man in the January transfer window. That said, he’s already added two La Liga prospects to his shortlist.

Arsenal have been proactive in the recent transfer windows. Not only have they invested heavily, but they’ve addressed positions of need. Not only this, but Mikel Arteta has done a stellar job at deterring other clubs away from his best players by offering them lucrative contract deals to keep them at Emirates Stadium.

The January transfer, hopefully, will be no different. Although the Gunners will be under budget due to their heavy spending in the summer and with a permanent deal for David Raya on the horizon, they will hope to do their best with the resources available to them.

In the January transfer window, a new midfielder will be targeted. Ideally, a defensive midfielder with Thomas Partey and Jorginho both surplus to requirements and coming towards the latter stages of their respective careers.

Arsenal shortlist La Liga duo in the January transfer window

According to a report from Calciomercato, Mikel Arteta has turned his attention to the Spanish top flight as he has shortlisted two young La Liga midfielders. The report claims that Martin Zubimendi of Real Sociedad and Aurelien Tchouameni of Real Madrid have been targeted by the Gunners.

Zubimendi is no surprise since he’s been a real favourite of Mikel Arteta in transfer windows gone by. It was a surprise to see the Gunners not sign Zubimendi in the summer, but of course, they opted for Declan Rice. Now, they could partner their England sensation with Zubimendi who is also versatile and hard working.

Tchouameni is a bigger surprise, although, he would be the better option for Mikel Arteta. Harder to obtain given his place in the Real Madrid starting eleven, he is an excellent defensive midfielder who could also play as a centre back if needed.
