Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has revealed his stance on the struggling signing from the summer transfer window, Kai Havertz.

When Arsenal signed Kai Havertz from Chelsea in the summer transfer window, nobody expected him to have the slow start he’s had. While the Germany international has made some valuable contributions, he’s struggling to find his first goal from open play in the Premier League.

Although, it’s important to note that Mikel Arteta is using him in a new role, so it’s bound to take some time before Havertz is fully acclimatised to the Emirates Stadium life. Plus, it’s not like he’s played bad. In fact, quite the opposite. He just needs to find that first open-play goal to find his confidence.

Mikel Arteta sides with Arsenal signing Kai Havertz

Speaking out on the situation, Mikel Arteta has sided with his player. Quoted by the transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, who was one of the first to report on Arsenal’s interest in the former Chelsea player, Arteta revealed that he has confidence in Havertz to make the team better.

At the moment, Kai Havertz is mainly used as a substitute in this Arsenal team, coming off the bench to provide height to the team as and when needed. Although, the plan is to use Havertz in the starting eleven on a more routine basis. As we know, though, Mikel Arteta rotates his starting eleven based on whatever experiment he is trialling at the time.

At the moment, for example, Takehiro Tomiyasu is a favourite of his for his sheer versatility and ability to get forward from full-back to a second striker.

In other news, Romano had a positive Gabriel Jesus injury boost.
