Juventus among sides tipped to explore deal for Manchester City outcast

As The Top Flight had previously covered over the most recent international break, midfielder Kalvin Phillips explained that his future at Manchester City needs to become more clear. Phillips hinted that should his current situation at the club not change, a move away would be on the cards in January. Things are starting to heat up for the former Leeds United player.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Kalvin Phillips is increasingly likely to leave Manchester City in January as the player searches for more game time. There is now an expectation between the player and the club that his time at the Etihad Stadium is ending.
A report from Calciomercato suggests that Juventus is one of multiple clubs keeping an eye on the situation of Phillips at City. The Italian giant’s primary focus at the defensive midfield position remains with Tottenham’s Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, but Kalvin Phillips is tipped as an alternative option. Phillips is likely to be available with a loan-to-buy option so that clubs can test the waters on where the player’s level of play is at.
Sky Sport’s Germany has also been covering the developing news, suggesting Bayern Munich has yet to approach Phillips despite being linked to the Englishmen. Bayern missed out on signing Fulham’s Joao Palhinha in the summer transfer window and will likely circle back on their interest in the Portuguese midfielder. Liverpool is also among the teams reportedly keeping tabs on Phillips for a potential winter move.
Describing Kalvin Phillips as an outcast under Pep Guardiola might be a compliment. Through injuries and lack of fitness, the English International has become a forgotten figure at Manchester City with little playing time since he arrived in 2022. Despite this, Gareth Southgate has still made Phillips a regular call-up for the Three Lions, and it has started to make England fans question what it takes to be called up to the squad.
