Arsenal look to add more midfield firepower in the January transfer target. Mikel Arteta’s chief target would free up Declan Rice even more.

Arsenal had a very good summer transfer window which has culminated to a great start in the Premier League season. Remaining one of only two sides to be unbeaten in the league this season, Mikel Arteta has Declan Rice to thank after his spectacular long-range goal late on in the match against Chelsea. It inspired a great comeback, ensuring a point when it looked like the Gunners would get nothing.

In truth, people haven’t been speaking about Rice’s price tag since he signed for Arsenal because they’re too busy speaking about his spectacular performances instead. One of the most consistent performers in the league this season, his dictation of player and dynamism in the centre of the park has been appreciated by fans.

Arsenal determined to sign Andre Trindade to unlock Declan Rice even further

But now, Mikel Arteta would like to make a move which would accelerate Declan Rice further. Having seen what he’s capable of further up the pitch, Arteta would like to sign a defensive midfielder which would ensure that Rice isn’t needed to drop deep.

According to a report from Fichajes, Arsenal are “determined” to make a big step by signing Andre Trindade of Fluminese. The 22-year-old is a deep-lying midfielder who would act as a long-term replacement for Thomas Partey, which frees up Rice to play further forward in the midfield.

The Gunners have been linked with Andre for the past few weeks, so there seems to be some solidity in these links. As far as Arteta is concerned, any signing which boosts the ability of those around him is a win-win.

Meanwhile, there has been an update on Ben White’s future.

Do you think Arsenal will sign Andre Trindade?
