Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag has added a “true leader” from England to his Harry Maguire replacement shortlist for this January.
Yesterday, The Top Flight reported that Harry Maguire had threatened to leave Manchester United if he doesn’t pick up game time. The solution for United is simple, don’t play him. If it means they can easily lose the awful defender who shouldn’t be playing at such a high level, then it’s a win win for Erik ten Hag.
Manchester United eye Marc Guehi as Harry Maguire replacement
According to recent speculation, Ten Hag is wasting no time in finding his replacement. According to a report from the South London Press (via 90min), Manchester United have added Crystal Palace centre back who represents England, Marc Guehi, to their list of January transfer targets.
Marc Guehi would be an absolute upgrade on Harry Maguire. Therefore, to lose Maguire and bring in Guehi would be the best possible scenario for Erik ten Hag.
Guehi is just 23 years old and already plays with a composure the likes of which many defenders never reach. Not only is he a composed centre back who can play out from the back, but he is also colossal in his defensive approach and inspires his teammates to play in the same manner.
Bringing in a ball-playing centre back should be the aim for Erik ten Hag. He signed Andre Onana, who is great with the ball at his feet, but his current issue is that he has no defender to pass to who can genuinely play out from the back well enough. To instill the Erik ten Hag philosophy, Marc Guehi may be the best bet.
Do you think Manchester United should sign Marc Guehi from Crystal Palace?
