Roma target Tottenham cult hero – Jose Mourinho is back to haunt Spurs
By Kian Long
AS Roma, managed by former Tottenham boss Jose Mourinho, has emerged as one of the clubs interested in signing this out-of-contract Spurs midfielder.
Yesterday, The Top Flight reported that Spurs were at risk of losing their cult hero Eric Dier on a free transfer, with Sporting CP registering their interest in the midfielder. However, there has been a different spin added.
Jose Mourinho wants to bring Spurs midfielder Eric Dier to AS Roma
According to a report from Calciomercato (via 90min) Serie A side AS Roma have emerged as the latest club to be interested in signing Eric Dier from Spurs. As a former Spurs boss who now manages Roma, Jose Mourinho would like to rekindle his working relationship with Eric Dier.
Certainly, Jose Mourinho is a big fan of the versatile English midfielder. Even while the Portuguese boss was managing at Manchester United, he was interested in bringing Eric Dier to Old Trafford.
As a manager who knows how to get the best out of Dier in any position, Dier may favour a move to Italy to reunite with his former manager. Certainly, he has more chance of getting game time under Jose than he does under the new Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou.
At the moment, Eric Dier is surplus to requirements in North London. Despite being one of the more senior players, it seems like his time at the club is soon-to-be over. It’s a new look Spurs team now and fans have no reason to complain. With the strong midfield trio of Bissouma, Sarr and Maddison, it doesn’t look like there’s any way in for Dier.
In other news, Ange may have already found his midfield replacement.
Do you think Jose Mourinho will bring Eric Dier to AS Roma, or will Dier prefer his former club Sporting CP?
