This past summer transfer window was one to remember for the Saudi Pro League as they took the footballing world by storm. Saudi Arabia’s sovereign fund, Public Investment Fund, took over four clubs in the league: Al Hilal, Al Nassr, Al-Ahli and Al-Ittihad. A large influx of players from across Europe’s best leagues left their respective clubs to make the big-money move to Saudi Arabia. Among those names for the Premier League were Jordan Henderson, Edouard Mendy, Fabinho, Allan Saint-Maximin, Kalidou Koulibaly, Aleksander Mitrovic and Ruben Neves. One of the biggest names that did not move but had interest was Liverpool’s Mo Salah.

As The Top Flight covered during the transfer window, Saudi Pro League side Al-Ittihad were strong admirers of bringing Mo Salah to Saudi Arabia. Al-Ittihad had been in contact with both Liverpool and Mo Salah as potential conditions of a deal, but Jurgen Klopp’s side made it very clear that Salah was not for sale under any price. That was reaffirmed when Mo Salah’s agent shot down the idea that the player was asking Liverpool to let him leave, citing that he would not have signed a new contract if that was the case.

The deadline passed, and Mo Salah ultimately did not move. The Egyptian star is now focused on helping Liverpool get back into a title race and win the Europa League. German journalist Philipp Kessler recently spoke to Michael Emenalo, formerly Chelsea’s technical director and now Saudi Pro League football director. Emenalo spoke to Mo Salah and the league’s vision for bringing the player to Saudi Arabia.

"“Mo is welcome at any time. But no one is pressured or forced to come. If anyone wants to come here and there is an opportunity to work with the transferring club in a very respectful and professional manner, we would be very happy to have them. But yeah, Mo is my personal favorite.” [Source]"

Is Al-Ittihad’s pursuit of Mo Salah completely over? It’s hard to say, especially when Emenalo states Salah is a personal favourite of his.
