Arsenal fan interestingly compares David Raya and Aaron Ramsdale stats

The main comparison on Arsenal fans’ lips at the moment is that of David Raya and Aaron Ramsdale. Has it been answered?

Since the start of the season, David Raya and Aaron Ramsdale have shared the honour to start between the sticks under Mikel Arteta. Certainly, the manager has claimed that he doesn’t have a favourite but in recent matches, it’s been David Raya who consistently gets the chance to impress Arsenal.

In the most recent match, which was the most important of the season so far, David Raya came out on top as he started the match. Despite looking shaky at first, he picked up yet another clean sheet which is his fourth of the season (third in the Premier League).

With this constant comparison in mind, an Arsenal fan on Reddit has broke down the stat comparison between the two goalkeepers. Overwhelmingly, David Raya tops the stats collected by Aaron Ramsdale both this season and last season.

As you can see,  David Raya wins the comparison on 11 occasions, with the only stats that Aaron Ramsdale better him in (pass completion and crosses faced – the latter hardly being a judgement of the keeper), Raya is only bettered by a tiny margin.

Both in terms of goalkeeping, passing and longer distribution, David Raya is clearly a better option than Aaron Ramsdale. I understand that it’s harsh to drop Aaron Ramsdale all of a sudden since he’s a fan favourite and hardly put a foot wrong, but Mikel Arteta must optimise these marginal gains if he’s to win the Premier League this season.
