Newcastle United are flying high right now after their emphatic win against PSG in the Champions League and currently 8th in the league but just three points off the European places. However, Eddie Howe is building a squad that is loved by the fans and proving it on the pitch as well; the good times are back at Newcastle, and he wants to include a youngster who is taking the Championship by storm.

England Under 19 international to St. James’ Park

There was interest in the summer from Newcastle for Blackburn’s Adam Wharton, but due to financial fair play reasons, they were unable to get the deal over the line. Now, with the January transfer window quickly approaching, the North East club is interested in the central midfielder once again.

In recent weeks, scouts from Newcastle have been monitoring the progress of Wharton, who has been impressing in former Magpies striker Jon Dahl Tomasson’s Championship side. Blackburn may sit 17th in the league, but the Championship can change quickly, especially with a player like Wharton, who is not afraid to shirk a challenge and win the ball back at any opportunity.

Having represented England at youth level, Wharton has a real future ahead of him, and Howe wants to nurture that potential.

Will Wharton make the move in January to Newcastle?

Knowing that scouts from a Champions League club are watching him week in and week out, it would be hard for Wharton to turn down a move to the club, especially given the fact Eddie Howe likes to play youngsters and give them an opportunity to strut their stuff.

Wharton could easily fit into the Newcastle side that has been developed, albeit not as easily as he has done at Blackburn, as the local lad rose through the ranks at the club.

Having been previously valued at £20 million, Wharton is the most prized asset that Blackburn has, and they will not want to lose him cheaply or easily. Newcastle may have some convincing to do.
