Chelsea boss Mauricio Pochettino may be tempted to recall his 19-year-old starlet in January, who hasn’t had the best time on loan.

Chelsea aren’t known for being the most morally-obliged club when it comes to their treatment of young players. If anything, they are treated like cash cows at Stamford Bridge. But that reputation could soon change under new manager Mauricio Pochettino, who is known to implement the best development plans to integrate young players into the starting XI.

One player who is the long-term plans of the Argentina manager is the 19-year-old winger Andrey Santos. Since he’s not yet up to the standard of being in the first team (but showing great potential), Pochettino loaned him out in the summer transfer window to Nottingham Forest.

However, the Premier League side are yet to grant him a Premier League appearance, despite there being seven games played already. With that in mind, it’s not been a successful loan spell, and I would understand if Chelsea officials are growing frustrated with their mid-table rivals.

Chelsea can recall Andrey Santos in January if Mauricio Pochettino wishes

According to a claim from Liam Twomey of The Athletic, Chelsea do have a recall clause which they can activate in January.

If things continue the way they are going and Santos doesn’t start picking up appearances for Forest, then I wouldn’t blame Chelsea for activating this release clause. It’s unlikely they’ll recall him to use in the first team, but they could find another loan option to avoid humiliating their promising youngster.

In other news, this 25-year-old star has informed Pochettino he wants to leave.
