An Arsenal defender who is one of the best in the world has been targeted by Real Madrid. However, given their tiny valuation of him, there’s no panic.

Arsenal are in action tonight in the Carabao Cup. After their disappointing draw to their tiny rivals Spurs, Mikel Arteta will seek nothing but a win to bounce back from this dire result. Indeed, Brentford are never an easy opposition, particularly right now, but Arteta will see this competition as a genuine opportunity to pick up silverware this season.

I have predicted my lineup for tonight and a key player who doesn’t make the cut is William Saliba. It’s not a result of him being dropped, but instead rested, since he is a key component to this Mikel Arteta side.

His defensive excellence isn’t only noticed by Arsenal. Indeed, he is receiving worldwide acclaim for his calm and collected nature at the back. So much so, that he is on the shortlist of Real Madrid.

Real Madrid eye £61m move for Arsenal defender William Saliba

According to a report from the Spanish source Fichajes, William Saliba is of interest to Real Madrid, who eye a 2024 move for the France defender. It’s been revealed that they could be willing to spend £61m (€70) to sign Saliba from Arsenal.

Given the fact that Arteta wouldn’t even accept £200m for his defensive counterpart Gabriel, I highly highly doubt that he would be convinced by a £61m move for William Saliba, who is arguably more important.

If anything, to bid so low for Saliba would be an absolute insult to Arsenal. They are not likely to entertain any offer of £61m for a player who made the team of the season last time out and is the first name on the team sheet for Arteta. Real Madrid should re-think their offer, get some respect, and then come back in for Saliba. Try doubling that offer.

Do you think Arsenal will sell William Saliba?
