West Ham open talks for in-house agreement with “reliable” striker
By Kian Long
West Ham have started the season incredibly well. Despite losing some key players, David Moyes has done a terrific job to regroup his players and give them a near-perfect start. Of course, their unfortunate loss to Manchester City (from which they were close to even picking up three points), made them lose 3 points. However, the Hammers remain in fifth place.
At the London Stadium, West Ham commence their opening Europa League fixture on Thursday night. It will be great to see the Hammers return to European competition, after they shocked the world last season by lifting the Europa Conference League. Before the fixture, though, Moyes has some chores he would like to accomplish.
West Ham United open talks for new Michail Antonio deal
According to Football Insider, West Ham have opened talks to extend the contract of Michail Antonio. The 33-year-old who is dubbed as Mr Reliable, is only under contract until the end of the season. Of course, there is an option for the club to add on a further year, but they’d like to extend this.
Michail Antonio has started the season well. Given the Hammers’ sale of Scamacca, they have relied on the Jamaican centre forward. Starting every game so far this season, Antonio has produced a positive return of two goals.
Certainly, it’s clear that Antonio loves the club and the fans love him in return. Ageing at 33 years old, it will be heartwarming for him to know that the club would like to stick by him, even as he nears the end of his playing career. Time will tell if the feeling is reciprocated, and whether Antonio would like to retire in London.
Do you think West Ham will secure a new deal for Michail Antonio?
