Tottenham Hotspur prepares to host newly promoted Sheffield United in gameweek 5 of the 2024/24 Premier League campaign this afternoon. It’s a game in which Ange Postecoglou will be full of confidence heading into, as he’s started his terrific Spurs campaign unbeaten. He’ll hope to continue that run today, with the help of Spurs injury news being in his favour. Let’s see…

Spurs injury news vs Sheffield United – Giovani Lo Celso ruled out

Spurs have suffered a major setback in their midfield, as Ange Postecoglou has today confirmed that Giovani Lo Celso has been ruled out of playing in this match. The news comes from London World.

There was always doubt heading into this fixture as it was a race against time for Lo Celso. However, now it’s written in stone that the Argentine will miss this match.

In truth, it was unlikely he would start anyway, as James Maddison who he’s in competition with is in fine form. Primarily playing as a centre forward or central attacking midfielder, it’s difficult to find your way into this Spurs team, with both Son Heung-Min and Maddison putting in some solid performances of late.

The midfield, then, is more than likely to consist of James Maddison as mentioned, Yves Bissouma who has also been in solid form and Pape Sarr, who is most likely to cover the defensive line as his midfield role.

So, Spurs have started the season well, but they often do. What’s important for new manager Ange Postecoglou is that he keeps the momentum into the new year, and games like this are important to win and not slip up. Every point matters after all, and he will hope that Lo Celso returns from injury in a speedy manner.
