Manchester City announce star defender’s re-signing in Holywood fashion

Manchester City, after their Champions League triumph, have seen some of their veteran players move on from the club. Perhaps they felt they had completed their journey in Manchester, or greater money came calling, like in the case of Aymeric Laporte to Saudi Pro League Al Nassr. Key summer departures, whether loan or permanent, include both Ilkay Gundogan and Joao Cancelo to Barcelona, Cole Palmer to Chelsea and Riyad Mahrez to Al-Ahli.
One player who was touted to leave this summer but ultimately stayed was fullback Kyle Walker. Originally linked to a move to Bayern Munich, Kyle Walker’s contract was expected to expire in 2024, causing much speculation about his future at the Mancunian club. As The Top Flight covered recently, Kyle Walker was expected to sign a new contract at Manchester City, extending his already six-year stay at the club. On September 14th, Manchester City officially announced Walker was extending his stay at the Etihad.
Referencing the extremely popular Wolf of Wall Street movie featuring Leonardo Di Caprio, Kyle Walker has let it be known he’s not leaving. The official press release states Walker’s new contract runs until 2026, and the player has provided his thoughts on the new deal.
"“I’m thrilled to sign a new deal. My future is with Manchester City and that is the best thing for me’.“I’ve enjoyed every single moment of the past six years at this fantastic Club. I have an amazing coach, great team-mates and staff and our fans are the best. I feel supported on every single level.“The Treble-winning season is one I will never forget and we’re ready to go again and try to win more trophies. I am delighted to continue at a Club that competes for trophies every year and I can’t wait to see what the next few years bring.”"
