Manchester United might terminate the contract of Anthony Martial as they will not trigger the one-year extension in his contract if things stay the same.

Manchester United have been looking for a good striker. After Van Persie, they tried Falcao, Cavani, and even Cristiano Ronaldo. However, their stints are far from being a success at the club. So, United turned to Anthony Martial to deliver the goods. He has been at the club since his iconic debut against Liverpool at Old Trafford in 2015. At times, Martial did show glimpses of what he is capable of. However, due to his injuries and lack of intent in games, he failed to find the kind of success he deserved. There was no doubt about his potential. But, never matched his potential with his performance. Now, as he is in the last year of his contract, Manchester United may not trigger the one-year extension and terminate his contract.

Should Manchester United keep Anthony Martial as a backup for Hojlund?

It is as clear as the daylight that Anthony Martial struggles to perform whenever there is a competition for his place in the squad. When Cavani or Ronaldo was in the squad, he struggled to perform. However, at a club like Manchester United, there will be competition for places. And, Anthony Martial cannot handle the pressure properly. Therefore, Martial is not good enough to play for Manchester United although, he is a brilliant player and a great talent.

As Manchester United already has Rasmus Hojlund, if they terminate Martial’s contract and let him leave as a free-agent, it will not be a bad decision because he is not even a good option as a backup. United can sign another striker who could be a backup for Hojlund. However, this situation of letting Martial leave as a free-agent should not have arrived in any other club. This exposes the incompetency of Richard Arnold, John Murtough, and the entire Manchester United boad.

Do you think Martial should be allowed to leave as a free agent? Let us know in the comments!
