Chelsea invested heavily in strikers in the summer transfer window, however, they’ve had no great reward. Although Nicolas Jackson gets himself into promising situations, he can rarely put the ball into the net despite having a high xG. Christopher Nkunku has been injured, so no comment can be made on that investment. Therefore, the jury is still out for Mauricio Pochettino’s attacking options.

Despite Pochettino openly trusting his players, there’ll surely be a nagging thought at the back of his mind telling him he can do better. And certainly, we know Todd Boehly loves to spend, so more big-money signings are expected to be made in the January transfer window. Could a new striker be on the cards?

Chelsea move “behind the scenes” to land Ivan Toney

According to London World, Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino has been making moves “behind the scenes” with club owner Todd Boehly to make the signing of England striker Ivan Toney possible in January.

The report claims that Pochettino is a big fan of Ivan Toney and he’s seen as the ideal candidate to sign in January. Toney is English, the right age to prove himself and his quality in the Premier League is evident from his time at Brentford.

Of course, Toney is serving his ban, but he will be hungry to achieve more upon his return. Before the controversial ban was placed on Toney, he was only bettered in the Premier League by Harry Kane and Erling Haaland. With one of those options gone, he’ll want to take on the near-impossible task of beating Haaland’s goal tally, something he could achieve at Chelsea.

Do you think Chelsea will sign Ivan Toney?
