Declan Rice is dubbed by many as the signing of the summer. Although he was signed by Arsenal for a big fee, Mikel Arteta is reaping all the rewards as Rice has proven invaluable at the start of this season. Not only did he score THAT last minute winner against Manchester United, but he has put in some unsung midfield performances that have kept up the unbeaten start to the season.

Rice is calm on the pitch, but signing for a club the size of Arsenal is bound to be nerve racking, even for the most experienced and composed individuals. Certainly, Declan Rice hasn’t hidden away from this fact and instead, has embraced it.

Declan Rice speaks of Mikel Arteta’s hilarious induction for him at Arsenal

As quoted by Fabrizio Romano, Declan Rice has spoken out about the hilarious tactic which Mikel Arteta used to introduce him and to clear the nerves straight away. According to Rice, Arteta put a sticker on his chest which said “Hello, I’m the new person.” It’s a small gesture which adds a level of humour  to a situation which would’ve otherwise been quite daunting.

Rice speaks out feeling the need to hide this sticker but in many ways, it’s a metaphor of why he was brought to the club. Arteta has bizarre tactics of management, we all know this, but they work! Indeed, as a player who moved around a bit during his time, Arteta knows that raising awareness to the nerves and confronting them straight away settles you in faster than hiding.
