Liverpool saw a massive overhaul of their squad this summer. The likes of Roberto Firmino, Fabinho, Jordan Henderson, James Milner, Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain departed the squad during the last transfer window. The Reds have also made some significant signings, though. In the midfield, Alex Mac Allister, Dominik Szoboszlai and Ryan Gravenberch have all joined the squad. Jurgen Klopp will be happy that the Saudi Pro League window has closed now, too, as Mo Salah’s links to Al Ittihad will now fade away.

Liverpool management was busy this summer but now has a clear head to focus on extending the contracts of existing players at the club. In fact, one deal looks to be inching close to finalization. Fabrizio Romano is reporting that fullback Kostas Tsimikas and Liverpool are ‘advancing’ in their negotiations on a new contract. Both parties are looking to wrap up a deal in due time, and everything suggests it will get done. His current contract runs until 2025 at Anfield. Tsimikas has yet to play much football this season, earning just four minutes off the bench in a 3-1 win over Bournemouth. That is expected, though, as his role is to be the backup left-back of Andy Robertson.

Tsimikas earned nine Premier League starts last season at Liverpool when Robertson was dealing with an injury and fitness issues. Despite knowing he is likely not to start many matches, the “Greek Scouser” always puts a solid shift in and realizes that he must work hard to earn his chances. Greece National Team manager Gus Poyet once described Kostas Tsimikas as a “top professional” for competing at the left-back spot with Robertson and always being ready to play. With Europa League matches coming, Tsimikas will have an opportunity to earn starts, given Klopp will likely feel comfortable putting the player against the opponents in their group.
