Perhaps an underestimated part of Arsenal’s transfer window is the players they’ve let go. Granted, they’ve sold a fair few players but none that will be detrimental to Mikel Arteta. In fact, despite receiving interest on some of their best players in the early stages of the summer, they’ve kept ahold of all of them and only sold the players who were surplus to requirements.
However, there’s one player who has been on the verge of a move away for ages. In fact, a few seasons. Going out on loan last season, it was never likely that Nicolas Pepe would come back to the Emirates Stadium and genuinely fight for his place in the team under Mikel Arteta.
But fear not, because Pepe will be moved on. Despite this being a long and drawn-out process, the movement of Nicolas Pepe from North London to Turkey could finally be completed today.
Arsenal flop Nicolas Pepe completes medical in Turkey today
According to Fabrizio Romano, who has provided many updates on this situation as it has progressed, Nicolas Pepe is in Turkey today to complete his medical tests. Further, Romano claims that this is not a loan deal, it’s a permanent move which sees Pepe under contract at Trabzonspor until 2024.
As far as Mikel Arteta is concerned, this will be a case of good riddance. While there won’t be any hard feelings between the club and the player, he’s had a disappointing spell at Arsenal, both under Mikel Arteta and Unai Emery. Now that he’s sold, his immense wages will finally be no burden to the North London club.
What did you make of Nicolas Pepe’s time at the Emirates Stadium?
