Unai Emery has adopted a strict managerial approach at Aston Villa, but it’s been needed for some time. He came to Villa Park with no sentimentality for the players, so allowed them to fight for their place in the team on an even playing field. In hindsight, you cannot fault this approach, since it guaranteed European football for the Villans, where they will continue their campaign after the international break.

Philippe Coutinho close to leaving Aston Villa on loan in Qatar

One player who could be without European football this season, though, is Philippe Coutinho. The superstar who was once recognised as one of the best in the world for his position hasn’t had the best time at Aston Villa. It’s through no fault of the manager’s, Coutinho just doesn’t fit the system. Now ageing at 31 years old, the priority for Coutinho is game time elsewhere.

A few days ago, we reported that he was linked with a move to Qatari side Al Duhail. Since then, there has been significant progress made on the deal. According to Fabrizio Romano on X, the maestro Coutinho is close to joining Al Duhail on loan, with his salary covered.

I would assume that the aim for Aston Villa was to sell Coutinho since they have no plans for him in the squad. However, a permanent deal might be struck when the loan finishes.

There’s no denying Coutinho is a great place as form can come and go but technical ability remains the same. Therefore, Al Duhail are getting a great player, who will surely boost their chances.

Do you think this is a good move for all parties?
