Arsenal have started the 2023/24 Premier League campaign off excellently. Mikel Arteta has proven to the doubters that his team could go on another title charge, despite many claiming they signed the wrong players.

However, there is one signing who is getting his fair share of stick in the media recently and that is Kai Havertz. Because he’s yet to score a goal in the league, despite playing as a midfielder, pundits seem to have it out for him.

ESPN pundit calls Arsenal signing Kai Havertz a “huge problem”

In his most recent bit of bad press, the former Chelsea star who is trusted by Mikel Arteta has been labelled as “a problem”. That’s according to ESPN pundit Craig Burley, anyway.

Burley goes on to describe Havertz as being short of confidence, not a goal scorer and a player who gives the ball away. He also claims that if Arsenal don’t address Havertz, who is apparently “the elephant in the room” (via The Boot Room), then the problem could be exacerbated for Mikel Arteta.

It’s important to address firstly that Burley has connections with Chelsea since he used to play for them. Therefore, it really is no surprise that his first criticism of Arsenal involves the player they signed from Chelsea who, by the way, was their best player last season and they look much worse without him.

In truth, Havertz hasn’t had the best start to life in an Arsenal shirt. However, Mikel Arteta obviously trusts him and the Spanish manager’s judgement has rarely been wrong since he took charge at the Emirates Stadium.

To judge a player after four games is nonsensical. Particularly when you factor in that Havertz is adjusting to a new system and settling into an environment where the players actually like each other, this is where the patience from Arteta is understood.

Do you think Kai Havertz will come good at Arsenal?
