Manchester United had a good summer transfer window. While question marks were raised, if you look at their signings objectively, Erik ten Hag did well to bring in the players he did while adhering to FFP guidelines.
But the Dutch manager is a man who’s never satisfied. For better or for worse, he’s always looking to better himself as a coach and make micro-improvements to his squad. While this can be his downfall with some players not like his discontent, you can’t argue that it takes an upward-aiming manager to manage a club as historic as Manchester United.
With that in mind, the boss has already compiled a shortlist of players to sign in January. Hopefully, the budget will allow for more flexibility in the signings, but historically the January transfer window oftentimes depends on suspensions and injuries within the squad which need addressing. Still, it doesn’t stop you from having some early entries on your wishlist.
Manchester United interested in Joao Palhinha from Fulham
According to a report from The Athletic, Manchester United have an interest in signing Joao Palhinha from Fulham. The Portugal midfielder is linked with a move away, either in January or summer, as the Cottagers just about managed to keep ahold of their best player this summer (providing Saudi doesn’t swoop in, of course).
Palhinha is a Premier League-proven player who has experience orchestrating the midfield on a regular basis. To put his excellence into perspective, he was Fulham’s player of the year last season. He’s not had a bad start to the season either, scoring a goal against title contenders Arsenal.
Long story short, Palhinha would be an excellent addition to the Manchester United midfielder, which has looked easy to break down this season. Good target for Erik ten Hag to pursue.
