There were plenty of moves that faltered in the last minutes of the summer transfer window. One of the big talking points on September 1st was Bayern Munich’s pursuit of Joao Palhinha of Fulham. With Germany’s window closing earlier than the United Kingdom’s, there wasn’t necessarily a rush for Fulham to find a replacement for Palhinha before selling him to Bayern. Nonetheless, it seems to be the reason why the deal fell through. Fulham were unable to secure the Portuguese midfielder’s replacement, and the deal ultimately fell through. Things seem so close that Palhinha was even in Munich undergoing his medical. For January, Bayern circling back on a deal could benefit Manchester United.

According to the Evening Standard, Fulham are likely to pursue Manchester United’s Scott McTominay once again should Bayern Munich make a move for Joao Palhinha, which they are expected to do. Tottenham’s Pierre-Emile Hojberg is also on the list of potential Palhinha replacements for Fulham. With the arrival of Sofyan Amrabat at Manchester United, the Red Devils are likely to be much more keen to let McTominay leave for greater playing time.

As The Top Flight has covered earlier, Manchester United themselves could even make a January move for Fulham’s Joao Palhinha as the club holds interest in the player. Perhaps the former Sporting player would rather move to Bayern, given it has been described as his dream move, and the Rekordmeister have shown significant admiration for the player.

Scott McTominay has played just seven minutes this Premier League season for Manchester United. With Champions League matches on the menu, maybe that does leave the Scotland international with some opportunities in Premier League action. He has just two years left on his current contract, which means Manchester United may not get full value on the player but still a significant enough fee.
