Manchester United wanted to offload Mason Greenwood as soon as possible. But, the problem was finding a club for him. They were advanced in talks with Lazio even exchanging legal documents. Yet, somehow the deal fell through. Finally, in the final hours of the transfer deadline day, Mason Greenwood signed for Getafe from Man Utd.
The official club statement from Manchester United said, “The move enables Greenwood to begin to rebuild his career away from Manchester United. The club will continue to offer its support to Mason and his family during this period of transition.” Also, transfer guru Fabrizio Romano confirmed in a tweet, “Understand Man United pay more than 50% of salary, just small part covered by Getafe.” However, there was no statement from Mason Greenwood. But, he finally broke the silence yesterday in a post on Getafe’s official social media page.
What did Mason Greenwood say after leaving Manchester United?
For the first since leaving Manchester United, Mason Greenwood spoke. He first posted a story on his Instagram saying “New beginnings”. He was holding a Getafe shirt in his hands. After that, Getafe posted a video on their social media account where Mason addressed Getafe fans and said, “Hi Getafe fans, it’s Mason here, I’m so happy to be here and I can’t wait to get started.”
Jose Bordalas, Getafe manager, also spoke about this transfer of Mason Greenwood, “It’s too delicate a subject to treat lightly. Everyone knows what happened and the appropriate measures were taken. We can only talk about football, obviously. The relevant bodies did what had to be done. Everyone knows what happened and that it ended with a sentence that did not find him guilty. He’s a footballer of an extremely high level and he arrives at Getafe with huge enthusiasm. We will try to help him to get back to his best level.”
Mason Greenwood has made 129 appearances for Manchester United and scored 35 goals. His contract with United will end in 2025. Do you think Mason Greenwood will be able to get his football career back on track? Let us know in the comments!
