Chelsea are in a sticky situation right now. Admittedly, as a neutral fan I feel no sympathy toward the club as it’s a self-inflicted situation. However, I do resonate with the fans of the club, because seeing the club you love be mistreated is not a nice feeling.

The truth is, it’s a structural problem. It’s easy to point the fingers at Todd Boehly for inflating the squad, but there are some teams in the Premier League who would kill for that level of investment. At the end of the day, there is quality in this Chelsea squad, but they aren’t playing like it.

One player who the finger is being pointed at, particularly after their loss against Nottingham Forest, is Conor Gallagher. The reason why Gallagher is in the spotlight is because he was involved in a miscommunication with Moises Caicedo which resulted in possession being lost and a goal conceded in a match which they eventually lost.

The Chelsea Chronicle have used this as a case study as to why Conor Gallagher should be dropped, providing Romeo Lavia is ready to make his debut after the international break.

The Top Flight reaction – Chelsea should trust Conor Gallagher

While I can understand the reactionary opinion, I couldn’t agree less.

In fact, Gallagher is one of the only players in the squad who has actually proven himself in a Chelsea shirt. After all, there’s a reason why Mauricio Pochettino loves him and wanted to keep him so bad, despite interest elsewhere.

Besides, a miscommunication in one match is the result of two players, not just one. Let’s not give Caicedo, who has been absolutely abysmal since he signed by the way, a free pass just because he cost over £100m. If anything, the finger should be pointed at him given his expectation.

Do you think Chelsea should drop Conor Gallagher?
