Arsenal have had a very good summer transfer window. So good in fact, they don’t need to enter any discussions over the next couple of days. It wouldn’t surprise me to see Mikel Arteta aim for one more signing before deadline day reaches, but it’s certainly not essential given the business already made.
Perhaps there was one controversy this summer, though. And that is the loan deal for David Raya. Admittedly, signing Raya on loan is much more sensible financially than buying permanently, but fans couldn’t help but feel the resources would’ve been better spent elsewhere.
Still, signing Raya on a season-long loan is risk free. Besides, having a top quality backup goalkeeper could result in being the difference between winning a trophy and not winning a trophy.
David Raya could be given his Arsenal debut against Brentford
Speaking of winning trophies, David Raya could help Arsenal do that in cup competitions. Given that the draw for the Carabao Cup third round fixtures was made today, Raya will be eyeing that as his chance to break into the first team.
Arsenal drew Brentford, which is obviously David Raya’s parent club. In the “usual” rules, this would mean that Raya is ineligible for this game. However, since this is a domestic cup competition, the rules state that Raya is allowed to feature in this match.

Certainly, Raya will be eyeing this fixture as his potential debut. Mikel Arteta would be more likely to choose Raya as well, as he may have some insider information on penalty takers, tactics, etc.
