Manchester United won a trophy last season after waiting six long years. It was the Carabao Cup that they won at Wembley Stadium. This year, Erik ten Hag and his team will look to defend this trophy. The second round of matches took place last night and after that, the Carabao Cup draw for the third round happened. This is the round from where the top sides in the Premier League will start taking part in the competition and Manchester United is among them. Thus, Man Utd finally got to know who their opponent would be in the third round of the competition.

Manchester United gets Crystal Palace at Old Trafford in the Carabao Cup third round

To start their campaign, Manchester United needed a home tie. As you know, United’s home record has been sublime since Erik ten Hag took charge of the club. Now, Man Utd got their wish fulfilled because they are getting a home tie in the Carabao Cup third round and their opponent will be Crystal Palace. Yes, United will take on Palace at Old Trafford which is going to be a great game. However, United will be the favourites to win this game and progress to the next round of the Carabao Cup.

Can Manchester United defend their Carabao Cup trophy?

Manchester United is still far off from winning the Premier League and every United fan would acknowledge that. Manchester City, Liverpool, and Arsenal are way stronger than Man Utd this season. Erik ten Hag is rebuilding a broken team and he would need time. But he has already delivered a silverware and that too the Carabao Cup. He went with the full squad to win the trophy last season. If he does that this year again, then Man Utd can certainly defend their crown. However, considering Manchester United will have UEFA Champions League football this season, it is unlikely that Erik ten Hag will go with his first team in the competition.

So, Man United fans, do you think United can defend their Carabao Cup crown this season? Let us in the comments!
