When Manchester United board sacked Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, they didn’t opt for a permanent manager straightaway. They opted for an interim manager in Ralf Rangnick. In the meantime, they were looking for a suitable man to take over the reins from Rangnick.
Man Utd were a mess at that time. They needed a strong personality to take control of the club. United board had two options; Mauricio Pochettino (PSG manager at the time) and Erik ten Hag (Ajax manager at the time).
