Chelsea have been known to make some great players but they have also known to break some great players. Most particularly, they don’t have the best track record with developing young players, their own academy graduates suffering the most.
Thankfully, another young player who was close to diminishing in the ranks at Stamford Bridge is close to securing a move away which will benefit his long-term future.
Callum Hudson-Odoi edges closer to move from Chelsea to Nottingham Forest
According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, the 22-year-old Callum Hudson-Odoi is close to completing a move to Nottingham Forest. Romano claims the deal is in its “final stages” and details are being clarified today.
Losing a player this close to deadline day is always a blow, but in truth, this one was coming. Since Mauricio Pochettino joined Chelsea, he has been known to have a clear preference for some players, while not being in favour of others. Despite Hudson-Odoi’s hunger to make a name for himself in London, he was part of the pile of no interest to Pochettino.
Given the inflated size of Chelsea’s squad, which is only exacerbated by Todd Boehly’s continued reckless spending, it’s in his best interest to make the move away.
For Nottingham Forest, their objectives are to finish within the mid-table of the Premier League. After avoiding relegation last season, they have made the right signings in the summer and some of their most important players are hitting form at the right time. Bringing in Hudson-Odoi will be a boost to them before gameweek 4.
