Arsenal face Manchester United on Sunday in the fourth match of their 2023/24 Premier League campaign. Although, I would be lying if I said this is the only thing on Mikel Arteta’s mind. Indeed, there’s only a couple of days remaining in the transfer window so there are still factors to sort before it closes.

One of those is the future of Nuno Tavares. All summer, Arsenal have been trying to secure a loan move away from North London for the left-back. However, they had no luck until recently.

Arsenal defender Nuno Tavares joins Nottingham Forest on loan

According to Fabrizio Romano, Nuno Tavares has signed for Nottingham Forest on loan. The loan fee which Forest must pay is higher than £1m and they have a £12m option to buy.

In my opinion, this a good bit of business from Arsenal. While £12m might seem like a small fee, particularly as it has the potential to be paid next season at the earliest, it’s important to have hindsight.

According to transfermarkt, Tavares’ market value has almost tripled since he was first signed. Furthermore, even looking at the superficial numbers, the Gunners will be getting an almost double return on what they initially paid for Tavares.

While his Arsenal career didn’t go to plan, we mustn’t overlook the financial impact of this deal. It’s not life-changing money, but it benefits the balance sheet and improves the Gunners’ net spend figures.

Do you think Nuno Tavares will be a success at Nottingham Forest?
