Spurs set to sign an exceptional young talent from Premier League rivals
By Gary Jordan
Brennan Johnson is set to leave Nottingham Forest by the end of the week, and it now looks increasingly likely that Spurs will be the landing place for the gifted frontman. There was interest from across London with Brentford tabling a bid of £43m, but that was rejected.
Brennan Johnson part of Spurs rebuild
Johnson, 22, has impressed many with his wing play, and chipping in with vital goals, could be another valuable piece in Ange Postecoglou’s rebuild after the sale of Harry Kane to Bayern Munich. Spurs have had a solid start to the new season, and the new manager knows that he can’t like-for-like replace Kane, but with some decent recruitment and patience in bringing in his philosophy, fans will soon be won over.
Brennan Johnson is a versatile player who will give options to the attacking line. His eight goals last season helped Forest keep their Premier League status, and this will be seen as a blow for the team that blew a two-goal lead last weekend at Manchester United.
London calling
Thomas Frank, the Brentford manager, had already enquired over Johnson and had his initial bid turned away, After a second knockback it is unlikely the Bees will go any higher than their valuation for the player. The door is now open for Spurs to step through and place a bid over £50m.
With Postecoglou already spending wisely, with the addition of James Maddison from Leicester City being what looks to be one of the best deals over the summer by any team, this latest move could be a nice part of the puzzle that slots in alongside the likes of Dejan Kulusevski and Pedro Porro. Tottenham will want to seal the deal quickly and avoid any deadline day hiccups, as they prepare for their match away at Burnley this Saturday.
