Former Manchester United midfielder Fred confirms the signing of the new backup goalkeeper Altay Bayindir. Man United were looking for a backup goalkeeper after Dean Henderson joined Crystal Palace on a permanent move. This year, the goalkeeping department at Man United has gone through an overhaul with David de Gea leaving the club and the new signing, Andre Onana taking the number one spot as the goalkeeper. Now, with Henderson leaving, Man Utd needed a backup goalkeeper and they signed Altay Bayindir.

What Fred Said to Manchester United’s New Backup Goalkeeper?

Fred joined Fenerbahce from Manchester United on a permanent move this summer. He spoke in a delayed presentation press conference when he accidentally confirmed the signing of Altay Bayindir as the new backup goalkeeper of Man Utd. “I wished Altay good luck when he left. He’s going to a great team.” Fred began by saying this. He further added, “I gave him some suggestions about places where he could live and I told him it rains a lot!”

What he said afterwards spilt the beans about United’s next signing, “I think Altay is going to be very happy at Manchester United.” After signing Andre Onana and the departure of Dean Henderson, this could be a welcome signing for Manchester United. However, the official confirmation of the signing is still pending. According to Fabrizio Romano, Altay Bayindir is completing his medical in Manchester ahead of joining United.

Is Altay Bayindir a Good Backup Goalkeeper for Manchester United?

Now, it is important to figure out whether Altay Bayindir is a good signing for Manchester United or not. First of all, Manchester United fans need to understand that he is going to be a backup goalkeeper and not a starter. In 145 games for Fenerbahce, Bayindir conceded 162 goals which is around 1.1 goals per match.

You also have to remember that he kept 44 clean sheets for Fenerbahce. So, it means one clean sheet in 3.3 matches approximately. Now, is that good god enough to be a Manchester United backup goalkeeper? What is your opinion on that? Let us know in the comments.
