Manchester United have started the 2023/24 Premier League campaign off on okay terms. They have played three matches and won two of them, losing uncomfortably to Tottenham Hotspur in the other match.

Admittedly, Erik ten Hag would want better from his team but in truth, they have been plagued by injuries already. New signing Rasmus Hojlund is out of contention through injury and one of their best defenders Luke Shaw is also on the treatment table (dare I say it, but it’s not a surprise).

With that in mind, Manchester United have had to re-enter the transfer market to seek a worthy replacement for their England international Luke Shaw. If recent reports are anything to go by, then Erik ten Hag has found the ideal candidate.

Manchester United inquire about Brentford’s left-back Rico Henry

According to a report from the Daily Mail, Manchester United have “inquired” about the potential signing of Rico Henry from Brentford. The 26-year-old Englishman is an unreal option as he offers a great attacking threat which would probably be better than that of Luke Shaw’s.

However, it remains to be seen whether Brentford would be willing to sell Rico Henry. The left-back, who can also play as a midfielder is a valued player under Thomas Frank. He’s played every single Premier League minute available and for good reason.

Selling Rico Henry makes no sense for Brentford unless they can pick up an unbelievable fee. Even then, they wouldn’t have sufficient time to shortlist his most optimal replacement. That’s not even taking into consideration that they’d be strengthening a Premier League rival.

For Brentford, the objective this season is to qualify for any European competition. While this may seem optimistic for a club of their size, they have shown consistently in recent history that they have outperformed where they “should” be performing. Frank has embedded a club culture which makes that possible, so to unsettle the team by losing a valued player is something they should seek to avoid.

Where do you think Rico Henry will play this season?
