Manchester United are still actively seeking a midfielder to sign before the transfer window closes in a few days. It’s set to be a busy start to the week as Erik ten Hag has left it somewhat late to sign a midfielder, as he’s been chasing the likes of Sofyan Amrabat for a long time now.
However, the deal for Amrabat looks unlikely, so other options are being considered. Ideally, United would like to sign a more attack-minded, or at least box-to-box midfielder. Casemiro has the defence locked down, but it’s in the final third where United could use more help from their midfielders.
Over the last few weeks, the name Ryan Gravenberch has popped up consistently in Manchester United transfer news stories. The 21-year-old Netherlands midfielder who currently plays for Bayern Munich is looking for a move elsewhere since he struggles for game time.
Both United and their league rivals Liverpool are thought to compete for him. However, if recent news is anything to go by, then Erik ten Hag has been given the advantage.
Manchester United offered BIG Bayern Munich swap deal
According to Bild, Bayern Munich are looking to sign the Scotland midfielder Scott McTominay on loan from Manchester United. However, this would work in United’s favour as it would allow Gravenberch to move on loan the other way.
In terms of like-for-like comparisons, United are obviously getting the better deal here. While I mean this as no disrespect to McTominay, Gravenberch is clearly better in most areas of the game.
However, it’s a complicated deal for United. Yes, they would like to sign Gravenberch, but would they like to lose McTominay at the same time? Probably not. McTominay is a valued squad player and this is proven in recent matches, whereby he has been called upon as an option alongside Casemiro.
