Aston Villa have already kicked off their Europa Conference League campaign with a win. Succeeding in Europa competitions is almost a guarantee when Unai Emery is in charge since he is the master of such competitions. Therefore, he’ll want to get all the factors needed to be successful in Europe right.

One area where Aston Villa currently lacks is squad depth. Particularly, depth in the defence. The reason why getting this factor right is because Unai Emery would like to focus attention on both the Conference League and the Premier League. To do so, he needs to have multiple options so he can rotate his squad on the occasion.

With that being said, Unai Emery has some options lined up as potential centre back signings. If recent reports are anything to go by, then it could be a return to the Premier League for an ex-Spurs player.

Aston Villa boss Unai Emery weighs up Clement Lenglet signing

Indeed, the most trusted source in the world has spoken. According to Fabrizio Romano, Aston Villa are “weighing up a move” for Clement Lenglet, who currently plays for Barcelona. The centre-back is certain to leave Catalonia this summer, with multiple options available. For now, Barca will wait to see how Aston Villa’s interest develops and what action is taken.

Certainly, Lenglet would be a great option. While his loan spell at Spurs in 2022 didn’t go to plan, this isn’t a reflection on Lenglet. He is a great defender and has experience in European competition. Therefore, he could be a great addition to Unai Emery’s Aston Villa rebuild.
