As The Top Flight has covered this summer, Chelsea’s Romelu Lukaku is searching for a club to play this summer. Despite recent reports suggesting the Belgian striker could be reintegrated into Mauricio Pochettino’s side, that will not be the case as the search continues. A return to Inter looked on the cards for Lukaku until the Italian giants decided to pull out of negotiations after they discovered the player had made contact with rivals Juventus over a potential deal.

At one point, a swap deal between Chelsea and Juventus was on the cards. The Blues would’ve received Serbian striker Dusan Vlahovic, while Juventus would have landed Lukaku and cash. Things fell through with that deal as well, but now Romelu Lukaku finally looks to have found his next destination.

AS Roma expected to land Chelsea’s Romelu Lukaku on loan

As Fabrizio Romano has reported, Roma is speaking with Romelu Lukaku’s camp to discuss how his salary will be paid. Lukaku has reportedly spoken to Roma boss Jose Mourinho on multiple occasions. Romano states that Roma has offered a loan fee worth over £4m. In a follow-up report, Fabrizio Romano states that negotiations between Chelsea and Roma are not active at the moment as Todd Boehly and Co. are watching the Strasbourg match. The expectation is that the clubs will reconvene later and hopefully come to a resolution on a deal. Romano states Roma believes they can close a deal for Lukaku soon.

Roma have Europa League group stages matches this season, and adding Lukaku could be a big help. The striker had 16 goal contributions in just 25 Serie A matches last season on loan at Inter and three goals in Champions League action. Chelsea will be hoping to eventually have Lukaku’s wages off the books completely in the near but for now; he remains their player.
