Manchester United beat Nottingham Forest 3-2 at Old Trafford. It seems a normal result, as United should win that game. But, the result is not as simple as it may seem. It gave Manchester United fans more worries than relief at the end of the final whistle.
United were 2-0 down within the first four minutes of the game. And, during that time, if you are a United fan, then you must have had memories of that Brentford loss last season in your head. But there was something different about this Manchester United after going down at Old Trafford.
Manchester United Players Show Character
Unlike the Spurs game, where heads were down after going down, this time around, due to the crowd support at Old Trafford, Manchester United players bounced back. After relentless pressure, Forest finally gave away. Eriksen scored the opener from Rashford’s cross.
Casemiro came really close to getting Manchester back on level terms. However, he could not guide the ball back into the net. But, in the second half, he rectified his mistake as Bruno Fernandes started a smart move and placed it on a platter for Casemiro to get United back in the game.
Finally, it was the pace of Rashford who did the trick and won a penalty, and Bruno Fernandes sealed the deal. Did you ever doubt that?
A Classic Manchester Comeback, Or Is It?
By looking at the scoreline and what happened during the game, you might think it is a vintage Manchester United performance. But, you have to understand United was playing against Nottingham Forest, who will probably be in a relegation battle.
So, going down 2-0 against Forest is concerning. Next week, Manchester United will travel to the Emirates to face the Gunners. If that happens against Arsenal, will Manchester United players show the same character as they did today? Or will they go back to that Tottenham game mode?
United are far, far away from challenging for the title this season. The progress Erik Ten Hag’s team made last season is nowhere to be seen. But, it’s only the start of the season. So, Ten Hag and his men would want to ensure that this game will be the turning point of the season and the Gunners game will be where Manchester United will truly show what they are capable of.
