Chelsea is still trying to find their rhythm in the Premier League in the midst of chaos in the transfer market. It is not a secret that Chelsea have spent loads of money, but with the injuries they have faced, the squad still doesn’t look complete. There will surely still be some incomings for Mauricio Pochettino, but there is still one big departure that needs to happen.
Romelu Luaku, who Chelsea bought for £97.5 in 2021, is not a part of the club’s project going forward. The Belgian striker is training with the Blues’ U21s while he waits to see what is next for him. Recent rumours have floated around that Romelu Lukaku could be integrated back into the Chelsea squad, given there are not a lot of suitors for the player at the moment.
Fabrizio Romano reports that Pochettino’s position on Romelu Lukaku remains the same as it was before. If a player does want to be a part of the squad, then they won’t be a part of the squad. The belief is that Lukaku does want to leave, and so nothing has changed.
Ahead of Chelsea’s match against Luton Town, Pochettino was asked about the Lukaku situation.
"“Nothing has changed. If you wishes and the club wishes to find a solution, then the club will tell me that something has changed. I am here and accepted a situation that was already done. I wasn’t able to change anything”. [Source]"
The Chelsea boss clearly still feels that he cannot persuade Romelu Lukaku to change his mind and doesn’t plan on doing so any further. Interestingly enough he does say if the club wanted to do something about it, they can but that he isn’t pushing the situation any further. With the end of the transfer window not far away, a final decision will have to come soon on Romelu Lukaku.
