Arsenal slap a £50m price tag on their striker who Boehly wants at Chelsea
By Kian Long
Arsenal are quite blessed in the forward department. They have many options, most of which are versatile and can play anywhere across the front three. Perhaps the most notable pull in their attack, though, is how youthful it is. They have some great young options in Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Martinelli, Folarin Balogun, etc.
It’s the USA striker, Balogun, who is receiving the most attention, though. Perhaps this is because he’s the only attacker in Mikel Arteta’s youthful setup who the manager is willing to sell.
Chelsea are one club who are interested. Obviously they’re interested, they don’t even need to scout players for Todd Boehly to slap down some cash. Well, it turns out Arsenal are looking to make the most of their London rivals’ naivety by naming a large price for Balogun.
Arsenal name a high asking price for Folarin Balogun
According to the Evening Standard, Arsenal have set a high £50m asking price for Folarin Balogun, should Chelsea wish to sign him. The report states that Chelsea have been sounding out the USMNT striker, and could start to pursue him once they’ve evaluated his price tag.
It’s not like Chelsea needs to sign a new striker, but Arsenal won’t complain about the extra revenue they could generate. It’s likely they’d accept less from a club who isn’t a direct rival. The fact that Boehly has been frivolous in his purchases probably adds to the asking price too.
From Arsenal’s perspective, selling Balogun is the best option. It was always a toss-up between him and Nketiah, but Arteta is a big fan of the latter. Despite Balogun’s successful loan spell in France last season, the Spanish boss sees no future for him at the Emirates Stadium. Therefore, it’s better for all parties if Balogun is sold this summer, not loaned.
Where do you think Folarin Balogun will play this season?
